Demons come alive in the 5th to drop the JV Braves

Monday, April 07, 2008

Monday afternoon proved to be a tale of two halves for the young JV Braves.  Leading 2-1 entering the top half of the 5th inning, the Braves had struggled to push runs across the plate but had still controlled the first part of the game.  Some timely Westlake hitting combined with a few Berea errors in the field led to a 7-run Demon 5th.  The Braves were not able to rally on Monday as the Demons would push 3 more runs across in the 7th to put the game at the 11-2 final.  The Braves sprayed 8 hits in the contest with an aggressive approach at the plate versus a good Westlake pitching staff, but mishaps on the base paths contributed to the Braves struggling run production.  Sophomore Luke Beehler had a solid 4+ innings outing in the loss, holding the Demons hitless into the 3rd inning.  Junior Christian Riley finished the game on the bump for the Braves, also having a quality 2+ inning outing.  The Braves will look to rebound tonight as they travel to Rocky River for a 4:30pm game against the Pirates.

JV Braves Hold off Normandy Invasion

Thursday, April 03, 2008

The Berea Braves JV Team won their 2008 opener in dramatic fashion Thursday afternoon.  The class of 2010, thinking their Parknoll days were over, got the travel back to their 2007 home field one more time and the theme was the same; a come-from-behind last at bat win.  Down 4-0 and being held hitless for 4 innings, the Braves chipped away at the Invaders in the 5th inning and tied the game at 4-4.  The Braves held the Invaders scoreless in the top of the 6th and with the umpires having declared the game would be called regardless of outcome at the completion of 6 innings (due to sun light), the Braves had one more crack at the opening day victory.  Two quick outs and with no runners on, the game appeared to be headed for a tie, when Freshman Shot-Stop Jacob Kehl took a 1-1 fastball off the left shoulder and gave the Braves life in the 6th.  Advancing on a past ball, Kehl stood on second and the Normandy manager decided to give Braves Right Fielder Luke Beehler the free pass by intentionally walking the sophomore.  Catcher Allen Peterkoski decided to make that decision hurt; Peterkoski crushed the first pitch fastball over the Normandy Center Fielders head and Kehl jogged in easily for the winning run.  Reminiscent of 2007, the Braves stormed the field to mob Peterkoski at first base and just like that the JV Braves were 1-0 in 2008.  Zach Bauer (0-0) threw 4+ strong innings only allowing 3 hits and striking out 4 earning a no decision.  Luke Beehler (1-0) picked up the win by slamming the door on the Invaders in the last 1+ innings.  The Braves defense was perfect on the afternoon committing 0 errors in the field.  The Braves are in action next on Monday 4/7 at home (BHS) in their first SWC contest of 2008 vs. Westlake at 4:15.
