(The following message was taken from a team email sent on 10/22 @ 11:00pm)

Parents,

We will begin our winter workouts in November. The first date is Nov. 11. That is the start of the pitchers and catchers workout as well as the batting rotations. Batting rotations is an opportunity to start working on your swing. We will have several stations where you will be able to work on different aspects of hitting. The time will be 7:00 until 9:00. Dec. 4th we will start our team workouts. Those workouts will be from 4:00 until 6:00.

All workouts will be at the Berea High Sports Complex. We will not be at Roehm at all this year. Attached is a schedule of our workout dates. Please note the tabs of Friday and Saturday on the spread sheet.

I know this is earlier than it has been in the past, but when you look at it we only have 12 Friday Practices and 11 Sunday Practices. That is because once high school ball starts we will no longer be able to practice as a team. The next time we can get together will be June first. That could be our first scheduled game.

I understand that several of you play winter sports as well. Please do your best to make as many of the practices as you can. If you will not be able to attend, please let us know.

Just a side note, the screen on my phone is broke. Please do not text me. I can not them.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Meet the Berea Braves New 16u Head Coach, Tom Farmer

Tom was born and raised in Berea. He started his baseball career in the Berea Baseball Association before moving on to the BBAT travel teams.  He attended Berea High School and graduated in 2004. While at Berea he was a three-time all-conference selection and MVP in 2004. He helped lead the Braves to back-to-back conference titles in 2003 and 2004 and a birth in Regional’s in 2003.

After Berea he went on to play baseball at the University of Akron where he was a four year starter for the Zips. Tom_Farmer.jpg After his freshman year he finished with the seventh lowest ERA in the conference. In 2006 he played for the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball league where he was an all-star that summer. After the summer had ended he was rated as the #20 prospect in the league and the #76 prospect in all of college baseball according to Baseball America.

In 2007 He was drafted by the Minnesota twins in the 20th round of the MLB draft. However, he turned it down to return to school and was picked up again in 2008. Once again things didn’t work out and he returned again for his fifth year. By the end of his career at Akron he finished in the top 10 all-time in strikeouts, appearances’, and innings pitched.

Tom currently works as a financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual and lives in Medina with his wife Liz.
